During the Monday afternoon Cherokee County Commission planning Session Ashley Langley from the CED Mental health Prevention Program spoke about them hosting the annual Youth Program Prevention Conference at Gadsden State Cherokee campus on January 22, 2024 from 9am -11am. This event is offered to 7th and 8th grade students in Cherokee County schools at no cost. Marc Mero former WWE Wrestling Champion will be the speaker. He will be speaking about “Champion of Choices”. The Cherokee County Commission appropriated $ 2200 for this event.
The County Commission got right down to business with four individuals having resigned from their current positions on county boards. One from Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Board, Coosa Valley Youth Services and two from CED Mental Health Board(Place B) and (Place C). Submittal of resumes, letters, etc. will be accepted through December 6, 2023 until the close of business in the County Commission Office.
In New Business the commission adopted the 2024 Holiday Schedule.
They approved the solid waste exemption list for the period of January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024. Also, being approved was the place, time and day for the annual Christmas lunch for county employees.
The County Commission approved the hiring of Ralph Whitten and Jerry Blackmon for positions open at the Highway Department. A job posting for a Part-Time Library Assistant was approved.
