Holiday Safety Tips from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office

Message from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office

With the excitement of Black Friday shopping here, we urge everyone to prioritize safety above all else.  We’ve listed some of the most important safety reminders for you to consider while shopping this holiday season!

  1. Have Patience Avoid any physical or verbal altercations. Anticipate long lines. Do not rush.
  2. Protect Your Purchases: Criminals will be on the lookout for unlocked or vulnerable vehicles with loads of recent Black Friday purchases. Lock your doors, conceal your purchases in a trunk space or underneath a blanket, and remember to be aware of your surroundings.
  3. Protect Yourself: If you are carrying a purse, be sure to not leave it unattended in a shopping cart or at your side. Hold it close to your body to prevent any thieves from attempting to grab it from you. Men should place their wallets in their front pockets rather than their back pockets.
  4. Be Mindful of Parking: Avoid parking in dark, unsecure locations, if able. Observe other drivers while parking/leaving the store location. Park in between the lines and return shopping carts to their appropriate locations.
  5. Obey the Laws – and, most importantly, follow the laws. Watch for pedestrians, don’t park in handicap areas without all of the proper documentation, and stop at all stop signs and do not speed through parking lots.

These Common Sense Safety Tips, are designed to make everyone aware, of how extremely important being fully aware of your surroundings, can be, during the busy holiday.

~An important safety message from Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, and his staff.
