Get to That Airport Earlier This Holiday season

Travelers Encouraged to Arrive Earlier Than Normal
Travelers who are scheduled to fly out of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) for Thanksgiving should plan to arrive an hour and a half to two hours ahead of their scheduled departure. It’s anticipated that both parking and getting through the TSA checkpoint will take longer than normal, due to projections that holiday traffic could reach record levels at times.
BHM is expecting a busy rush of travelers on Friday, November 17th. During the peak early morning hours, the lines at the TSA Checkpoint will be longer than what travelers are used to experiencing. These longer lines will occur off and on throughout the coming week.
During the holidays, the parking deck at bhm will likely be near capacity and possibly full at times. Passengers who plan to park at the airport are encouraged to consider all parking options before arriving for their flights. In addition to the parking deck, BHM offers an Economy Lot that is located on Airline Drive. Passengers simply park, catch a shuttle to the terminal, and ride a shuttle back to the Economy Lot when they return. The shuttles run continuously and the ride to and from the terminal is approximately 2 minutes.
Passenger traffic at BHM is trending up and began to surpass the 2019 levels back in June. Arriving early and anticipating large crowds will help passengers get where they’re going with time to spare.
