Rome Resident Charged With Child Cruelty for Making Child Walk to School

A Rome, Georgia man is facing charges after a 6-year-old is seen walking to school in subfreezing temperatures last Thursday.

According to Floyd County Jail records – a witness reported the child was walking on Burnett Ferry Road and several cars lined up behind him.  The school is more than a mile from the child’s home.  The witness stated that the child had on a jacket but was “ice cold.”  When officers went to speak with Anthony Curt Duran, age 36 – he acted in an extremely unpredictable manner toward them – and continuously pulled away as he was being handcuffed.

Duran was placed under arrest – and charged with 2nd-Degree Cruelty to Children, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstruction of Law Enforcement.
