Cherokee County gives UMS-Wright a battle, but ultimately falls in volleyball’s Elite 8

BIRMINGHAM – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors gave UMS-Wright a battle in the Class 4A Elite 8 volleyball tournament at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Wednesday, but ultimately they were swept to end their season at 34-18. The scores were 24-26, 20-25 and 15-25.

Nevaeh Gaidurgis led the Lady Warriors with 17 kills, five digs and an ace. Macy Lea added 25 assists and six digs. Ellisan Givens delivered 12 digs, an ace and an assist. Ava Haygood had six kills, eight digs and two assists.

Emilee Paul posted four aces, three digs and an assist. Reagan Garmany contributed four kills and a dig. Libby Curry collected a kill, three digs, two aces and an assist. Lilly Shaw finished with a kill.

Noel Freeman led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 kills and four blocks. Josie Jaye added eight kills and five digs. Addison Prine posted 19 digs. Madison Lathan had 17 assists and Skylar Courtney added five kills.

UMS-Wright went on to defeat Madison County in the state semifinals in four sets. The Lady Bulldogs face Montgomery Catholic for in the state championship match at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
