Sand Rock to play for Class 2A volleyball state title

BIRMINGHAM — The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats will be playing for the Class 2A state volleyball championship on Wednesday after sweeping Bayshore Christian and defeating G.W. Long in four sets in the Final Four at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Wednesday.

Sand Rock (49-17) will battle Pleasant Valley (39-12) for the 2A title on Wednesday at 19 a.m. at Bill Harris Arena.

On Tuesday, Sand Rock downed Bayshore Christian 25-17, 25-21, 25-19. Katelyn St.Clair had 22 kills, three blocks and  12 digs in the victory. Rylin St.Clair tallied 29 assists, 10 digs and five aces, and libero Chloe Stephens managed 12 digs.

Bethany Davis contributed seven kills and six digs, and middle blocker Zoey Handy had six kills and three blocks.

Noel Thies dished out 23 assists for Bayshore. Emmy Beach had seven kills.

The Lady Wildcats then defeated South Alabama power G.W. Long 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, with Katelyn St.Clair notching 29 kills and 18 digs. Davis added 18 digs. Handy had nine kills and four blocks. Stephens totaled 25 digs and five aces, and Rylin St.Clair delivered 39 assists and four digs.

G.W. Long (31-9) was led by setter Sawyer Hughes with 32 assists. Emma Grace Carraway had nine kills. Ally Whitehead and Anna Claire Free had eight kills each. Whitehead also had four aces.
