Microsoft has announced that it will invest $1 billion into a Data Center campus off of Huffaker Road. That announcement came during the Rome Floyd County Development Authority meeting, held Monday morning. The project, dubbed Project Firecracker, will encompass a 347-acre property which Microsoft reportedly will be purchasing, at a rate of $40,000 per acre. The authority voted to issue $1 billion in bonds in that project – alongside a 12-year tax abatement.
The company’s Director of Community Engagement, Paul Englis said they’ve committed to creating 150 new jobs at that center – although he said that’s likely a bit on the LOW side of the actual number of jobs that will be created. The Data Center will support the company’s Cloud Technologies and Azure business.
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
