Spring Garden sweeps its way past Jefferson Christian, Shoals Christian; Cedar Bluff’s volleyball season ends

HUNTSVILLE – The Spring Garden Panthers secured a berth in next week’s state volleyball tournament after sweeping Jefferson Christian and Shoals Christian on Thursday in the Class 1A North Super Regional at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center. The two wins improved the Lady Panthers’ record to 50-4 on the season.

In Spring Garden’s 25-7, 25-6, 25-11 win over Jefferson Christian, Ace Austin collected 13 kills, two digs, an assist and a block. Avery Steward added 28 assists, four aces and a kill. Chloe Rule contributed six kills and two blocks. Maggie Jarrett managed three kills, three aces and two digs. Olivia Law posted six kills and a block. Layla Ingram delivered six digs and two aces. Kristen Lewis came away with five digs and four aces. Libby Brown finished with a kill.

In a 25-10, 25-9, 25-14 victory over Shoals Christian, Austin accumulated 18 kills, three digs and two aces. Steward earned 38 assists. Rule delivered nine kills and a block. Jarrett delivered four kills and three digs. Law managed six kills, three blocks and an ace. Layla Ingram posted six digs and an ace. Lewis accounted for three digs. Helena Ingram had an ace and Brown finished with a block.

The Lady Panthers will face defending state champion Addison at 10 a.m. on Friday morning in the regional semifinals. The Lady Bulldogs swept Woodville and South Lamar in their two matches on Thursday.

In other Class 1A North Super Regional action on Thursday, Cedar Bluff’s season ended against Sumiton Christian in four sets. The Lady Tigers finished the year at 15-21.
