Become Involved with an Extended Family Group Near You!
Extended Family is currently seeking adult volunteers to work with Kids in the Extended Family for Kids (EFK) program as well as Extended Leadership Academy (ELA) groups!
Volunteers can assist in two important ways, as EFK volunteers work with staff Program Leaders to lead groups in schools and juvenile diversion programs for students who have a loved one who is currently, or has been, incarcerated; ELA volunteers can provide talks based on their personal work or life experiences to share their wisdom with older students who are preparing for their futures.
Either way, those volunteers have an opportunity to positively influence at-risk children who are looking for guidance from a caring adult. With a little time and a willingness to help, that adult could be YOU!
EFK and ELA groups meet during the school day, typically one 45-minute program per week. Volunteers choose the program time and location that best suits their personal schedule as well as the age students with whom they want to work. A time commitment of as little as two hours a week could make an incredible difference in the life of a child!

If you are interested in bringing EFK into your community, we are happy to help! Extended Family staff members will come to your community to answer questions – and help plan Program Leader Training, providing all of the information you need to begin EFK for children in your area.
Children who participate in EFK learn lessons that build self-esteem, ease feelings of shame, ease isolation, decrease stress, address anger issues, and strengthen communication skills. And, most importantly, Kids in EFK are given the message, “You matter!”
