SAND ROCK – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats won their fourth straight area volleyball title on Tuesday, defeating Gaston 25-6, 25-13 and 25-12 and West End 25-22, 25-15 and 25-8 in the Class 2A, Area 13 tournament on Tuesday.

The wins were also the 799th and 800th in head coach Lisa Bates and assistant coach Johnny Howell’s 22-year tenure at Sand Rock.

For the tournament, Katelyn St.Clair collected 33 kills, 19 digs and two blocks. Rylin St.Clair added 57 assists, five aces and three blocks. Zoey Handy had 18 kills and two blocks. Chloe Stephens delivered 32 digs and eight aces. Bethany Davis finished with nine kills, 22 digs and four aces.

The Lady Wildcats (44-16) will play the Area 15 runner-up on Wednesday at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

“Our chemistry is good right now,” Bates said. “Hopefully we’re clicking at the right time. We have to stay focused and bring our best game each match because the competition at regionals will be tough.”
