Young Man Injured in Tree-Cutting Accident

UPDATE

WEIS Radio News has recently spoken to a property owner who was in the process of cutting a tree on his property Monday – in the Leesburg Community – when the windy conditions pushed a tree across his truck.

In the initial report, the information we received indicated that the tree fell on a young man assisting with the work.

According to the property owner, the injured person was carrying a small log on his shoulder when the fell backwards, allowing the log to hit him in the face, causing his head to strike concrete – causing significant head trauma.  He remains in critical condition in a Rome hospital.

The first information reported that the victim was a 19 year old but the injured man is actually 22.

Atrium Floyd EMS, Leesburg Fire, and Cherokee EMA responded to the scene.

Police Chief Chatman said Leesburg Police, Centre Police, Cedar Bluff Police, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County EMA and ALEA all provided assistance by blocking intersections and providing an escort – for an ambulance rushing the injured  individual to Atrium Floyd Medical Center in Rome.

No further information is available at this time.
