Centre Fire Fighters Get Increase In Call Reimbursement

The Centre City Council on Tuesday evening gave the City’s Volunteer Fireman an increase in the reimbursement they receive for answering calls. They have been receiving $15 per call but now that will increase to $20 per call. Interim Fire Chief Robert Pace told the Council the department answered 129 calls during the past quarter with an average response time of 11 minutes per call.

The Council also approved repairs at the Fire Department in the amount of $3060 to cover the repairs to the electrical generator and the transfer switch.

Police Chief Kirk Blankenship gave the quarterly Police report with 186 incident and offense reports issued, made 93 arrests, worked 30 accidents, issued 86 uniform traffic citations, with 709 warnings issued.

Building Inspector Raymond Matthews, gave the Council the quarterly report with 4 commercial building permits issued in the amount of $109,827, 20 residential permits for $1,174,121, 6 sign permits in the amount of $50,736 for a total of $1,334,684 with the City retaining $2532.50 of the fees.

Jay Wilson, Park and Rec Director told the Council the Soccer League is up and going with 141 youngsters playing soccer.

The City agreed to participate with WEIS Radio in the Shop Centre First Campaign for the Christmas Shopping period of November and December through Christmas in the amount of $3400.

An expenditure of $3500 was approved for the Police and Fire Departments Trunk or Treat Event for October 28th on Main Street in Centre.

A Pickleball Tournament was approved for the Cherokee County Fellowship of Christian Athletes to host at the City’s Pickleball Courts on October 28th from 8 am until.

The next Centre City Council meeting will be on October 24th with the planning session at 4 pm and the meeting at 5.
