A wrong-way, head-on crash in Hoover on Monday evening, left a woman dead. Police say the driver of the SUV that struck the woman’s car fled the scene and ran onto I-65 during the evening rush hour traffic – where he was hit by another vehicle and critically injured
The first accident happened around 6:00pm on Valleydale Road at the I-65 overpass; the Hoover Police Captain, Keith Czeskleba said the man, whose identity has not been released, was driving a Ford Expedition northbound in the southbound lanes – when he struck the Camry head-on. The driver of that Expedition fled the scene on foot, running onto I-65 – and as he was attempting to cross the southbound lanes – he was struck – by an oncoming Mitsubishi Outlander. He was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both the driver – and the passenger of the Camry from that first incident were also taken to UAB Hospital.
The female passenger was pronounced dead on arrival at UAB. The driver is being treated for serious injuries and the driver of the Outlander remained on the scene of the second crash.
The investigation is on-going.
