Second-half surge lifts Valley Head past Cedar Bluff on homecoming

CEDAR BLUFF – The Cedar Bluff Tigers managed to hold a halftime lead on homecoming against Valley Head, but the visiting Tigers’ scored 26 unanswered second-half points to take a 44-20 victory in Class 1A, Region 7 football action on Friday night.

Hunter Jenkins put Cedar Bluff (3-4, 1-3) out in front with a first-quarter touchdown run, but Valley Head’s Tytan Blevins countered with the first of his four touchdown runs in the game to tie the game at 6.

Alex Baty put Cedar Bluff back out in front 13-6, but Blevins scored two more times in the first half to give Valley Head (4-2, 2-1) the lead at 18-13.

The lead was short-lived. Cedar Bluff’s Caleb Edmondson returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to give the home standing Tigers a 20-18 advantage at halftime.

Blevins picked up where he left off in the third quarter by scoring his fourth touchdown of the game. Nate Bain accounted for three Valley Head scores in the second half for the final.

Baty led Cedar Bluff’s ground game with 60 yards on nine carries with a touchdown. Kaden Pack completed 3-of-8 pass attempts for 72 yards. Edmondson caught two passes for 42 yards in addition to his kickoff return for a score.

Cedar Bluff is at Coosa Christian on Friday. Valley Head hosts Appalachian.
