MONTGOMERY – The Alabama High School Athletic Association recognized 17 area football players for their performances last weekend.
On Thursday, Cherokee County High School defeated Munford 56-10 behind several individual efforts.
Quarterback Carson Tittle accounted for four Warrior touchdowns. He was 2-of-2 passing for 49 yards and two scores (19 and 30 yards) and ran four times with two more touchdowns from 11 and 14 yards.
Running back Jacob Cornejo ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns (23 and 9 yards) on 15 carries and posted six tackles on defense.
Speaking of defense, Tristan Brown posted nine tackles and recovered a fumble for a 39-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Also on Thursday, Piedmont fell short to Anniston by the final of 14-9. Quarterback Cole Wilson was 7-of-13 passing for 172 yards and a 36-yard TD to McClane Mohon in the fourth quarter.
The exceptional efforts continued on Friday. Cedar Bluff quarterback Kaden Pack scrambled 13 yards for the game-tying touchdown with 33 seconds remaining. Carter Dillingham kicked the extra point to provide the Tigers a 7-6 comeback victory at Spring Garden.
Pack was also 9-of-17 passing for 90 yards and had 11 tackles on defense.
Logan Hampton blocked Spring Garden’s extra-point try midway through the third quarter, which gave the Panthers a 6-0 lead – setting up Dillingham’s opportunity to kick his lone extra point attempt through the uprights for the win.
Carson Webb led the Tiger defense with 16 tackles, including one for loss. Caleb Edmondson made six tackles and had an interception on defense in the Tiger win. He also caught three passes for 50 yards on offense.
Leading Spring Garden’s effort on offense was Connor Bates and Chapel Pope. Bates gained 119 yards on 16 carries while Pope posted 105 yards on 18 totes with a 5-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter.
Noah Barber led the Panther defense with 10 tackles. Grey Simpson added six stops and a pair of sacks.
The Collinsville Panthers posted a 47-0 victory over Gaston on homecoming, led by running back Quintavious Rogers’ 164 yards and four first-quarter touchdowns on just seven carries. He also had an interception on defense.
Quarterback Mason McAteer completed 6-of-8 pass attempts for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Gavin Lang was his top receiver with five receptions for 154 yards, including a 93-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
