Woman Dead and Man Shot in Arkansas – after Allegedly Shooting His Mother in Hokes Bluff

A woman is dead and a man suspected of shooting his mother in Alabama was injured, after the pair were involved in a shootout with Arkansas Sheriff’s Office Deputies, after the chase spanned three counties this week.  Tami Nayler, 47, died after being shot by deputies following the pursuit that ended early Wednesday morning in Cross County, Arkansas – that according to the Arkansas State Police.

William Burchett, age 54 – who was a suspect in the shooting of his mother in Hokes Bluff in Etowah County, was injured in the shootout.  Burchett was taken to St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas with unspecified injuries.  It was unclear why the pair was in Arkansas but state police say the vehicle Burchett and Nayler were in led law enforcement on a pursuit that began in Crittenden County and then crossed into rural sections of Poinsett County ending in Cross County, where spike strips were deployed on Highway 75.

Burchett and Nayler fired on deputies, prompting the officers to return shots and it appears that no deputies were injured in the incident, which the state police is investigating.
