MUNFORD – Class 4A, No. 2 Cherokee County scored 28 second-quarter points to break open a tie game, leading to the Warriors’ 56-10 football rout at Munford on Thursday.
Senior tailback Jacob Cornejo ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, and junior quarterback Carson Tittle accounted for four more Warrior touchdowns. He was 2 of 2 passing for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Tittle also tallied 37 yards on four carries with two more scores for the Warriors (6-0).
Tittle accounted for the Warriors’ first score on a 19-yard pass to Carson Chesnut in the opening quarter. Ben Frampton kicked the first of six extra points which provided Cherokee County a 7-0 advantage.
The Lions roared back with a touchdown of their own – a 22-yard run by Amare Edmondson. Dakota Frank’s point after tied the game at 7 after one.
Edmondson led the Lions (1-4) with 96 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.
Tittle ran for his first score of the game in the second quarter on an 11-yard run to open the Warriors’ 28-point second quarter. Tristan Brown and Cornejo accounted for the next two Warrior touchdowns on runs of 39 and 23 yards respectively. Brown’s touchdown was a fumble recovery and return. Tittle capped the Warriors’ scoring in the first half with his 14-yard run.
Frank added a 41-yard field goal before halftime to cut the Warrior lead to 35-10.
Tittle took to the air again early in the third quarter, tossing a touchdown pass of 30 yards to Frampton. Cornejo added a 9-yard touchdown run to give the Warriors a 50-10 lead after three.
Jayquan Diamond scored the Warriors’ final touchdown on an 11-yard run in the fourth.
Cherokee County is off next weekend, while Munford is at Lincoln.
