Several local athletes scattered throughout AHSAA’s Football Spotlight

MONTGOMERY – Several area football players were recognized late Tuesday afternoon in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Football Spotlight for last week’s performances.

Collinsville’s Quintavious Rogers grabbed a pass from Mason McAteer and scored on a 44-yard touchdown reception on the first offensive play of the game in a 59-14 victory at Sand Rock. He also rushed for three touchdowns and 87 yards on seven carries – all in the first half.

Teammate Gavin Lang also raced 62 and 70 yards on his only two carries of the night and caught three passes for 47 yards.

Spring Garden, Cedar Bluff and Gaylesville also had a pair of players recognized.

For Spring Garden, Chapel Pope rushed for 92 yards on 16 carries and accounted for both Panther touchdowns (2 and 6 yards) in a 15-6 victory at Winterboro. He also completed 2-of-4 pass attempts for 39 yards and had three tackles with an interception on defense.

Speaking of defense, John Welsh led the Panthers in that department with six tackles and a sack. He also caught four passes for 91 yards on offense.

For Cedar Bluff, Kadin Fife posted 12 tackles on defense eight stops resulting for losses in a 13-7 loss to Decatur Heritage in Class 1A, Region 7. He also had two sacks. Teammate Kaden Pack added 10 tackles and a sack. He also completed 8-of-14 passes for 81 yards.

The Bradley brothers at Gaylesville were also recognized for their performances. Kyler Bradley snagged eight pass receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown from younger brother Kuper Bradley in a 39-12 loss to Appalachian.

Cherokee County High School’s Tristan Brown led the Warriors with eight tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack, in a 55-0 homecoming victory over Hanceville.

And Sand Rock’s Kane Robison, a junior guard who converted to a running back, had 21 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns covering 53 and 18 yards in the Wildcats’ 59-14 loss to Collinsville.
