A tractor-trailer driver has been charged with felony Vehicular Homicide following a wreck Monday which claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
The accident occurred at around 6:45am, on Highway 27 North, at Armuchee High School; according to information logged in to Floyd County Jail records 46-year-old Tony Orlando McFarland, from Birmingham, Alabama, was following too closely when his truck hit the motorcycle – killing 34-year-old Kyle Holladay of a LaFayette address. McFarland then left the scene.
That crash took place, just moments after a single-vehicle crash had occurred in the same area.
According to Floyd County Police reports a pickup truck left the roadway, hit some guidewires, and brought down utility lines. The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Highway was closed in both directions for several hours as police investigated both wrecks and utility crews made repairs.
