Warriors shut out Hanceville on homecoming

CENTRE – It wasn’t the 420-yard, two-touchdown performance he had last week against Oneonta, but Cherokee County High School senior running back Jacob Cornejo still had an impressive night running the football nonetheless for the Warriors on homecoming.

Cornejo compiled 84 yards on 13 carries and scored four touchdowns. He also had an interception on defense in leading the second-ranked Warriors to a 55-0 victory over Hanceville in Class 4A, Region 6 action on Friday.

Cornejo scored three touchdowns in the first half on runs of 1, 46 and 4 yards, in which the Warriors (5-0, 3-0) led 28-0. He scored his final touchdown on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to Cherokee County out in front 35-0.

Carson Tittle tallied 83 yards on nine carries with two scores, including a 1-yard run in the second quarter and an 11-yard run in the third quarter. Carson Chesnut ran for a 67-yard touchdown in the fourth. Tyson Wood scored on a 33-yard run for the final.

Ben Frampton connected on all seven of his extra point attempts. Cooper Rodgers also had an interception on defense.

Cherokee County travels to Munford on Thursday.
