Cedar Bluff falls short at Decatur Heritage, 13-7

DECATUR – Decatur Heritage scored on the first play of the game and again midway through the third quarter – both on deep passes. The Eagles made those two scores hold up, and their defense held Cedar Bluff out of the end zone late to capture a 13-7 victory in Class 1A, Region 7 football action on Friday night.

Nash Thomas connected with Harrison Hardy on the game’s first play for a 55-yard touchdown. The extra point made it 7-0 Eagles. A Thomas-to-John Owen Vincent 37-yard pass in the third quarter went for a touchdown to provide Decatur Heritage (4-1, 2-1) a 13-0 lead.

Cedar Bluff (2-3, 1-2) scored its lone touchdown on Hunter Jenkins’s 5-yard run late in the third quarter to make it a 13-7 game. The Tigers had a chance to take the lead late but could not punch it in.

Jenkins finished with 82 yards on 21 carries. Kaden Pack completed 8-of-14 passes for 81 yards. His top receiver was Caleb Edmondson, who had six catches for 68 yards.

Kadin Fife led the Tiger defense with 12 tackles, including eight for loss and two sacks. Pack had 10 tackles, including one for loss and a sack. Carson Webb posted nine stops, including three for loss and two sacks.

Cedar Bluff travels to Spring Garden on Friday in non-region action. Decatur Heritage travels to New Hope.
