If this season’s Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football rankings so far prove to be correct, then a Class 4A state championship rematch is looming between defending state champion Andalusia (4-0) and runner-up Cherokee County (4-0) this December in Tuscaloosa.

The two teams continue to be ranked 1-2 in the latest poll, released early Wednesday morning. The Bulldogs defeated the Warriors 28-7 to win the state title in Auburn last year.

Behind a 420-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance from Jacob Cornejo, the Warriors are coming off an impressive 49-21 victory over Oneonta (2-2) and will host Hanceville (2-2) this Friday. Andalusia blanked Bullock County 50-0 and will host Montgomery Academy (2-2) on Friday.

Three other area teams continue to receive votes for the poll in their respective classes: Class 3A Piedmont (1-2), Class 2A Collinsville (2-1) and Class 1A Spring Garden (2-2).

Piedmont, coming off a 24-13 victory at Plainview for its first win of the season, hosts Ohatchee (3-1) on Friday. Collinsville, coming off its first loss to third-ranked Pisgah 66-13, travels to Sand Rock (1-3). Spring Garden, which defeated Victory Christian 41-7 last Friday, travels to Winterboro (2-1).
