$58 Million Dollar Budget Adopted By Board of Education
During the regular meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education, the Fiscal Year ‘24 Budget Hearing was presented by Mrs. Robin Cunningham. She stressed the motto for the Cherokee County School system is Educate, Inspire and Empower. She went over the mission of the budget procedure beginning in October. The budget runs from October 2023 until September 30th 2024.There are currently 541 jobs total in the Cherokee Countysystem. The combined budget for the school year is 58,594, 424 dollars.
Mr. Butch Collar and Mr. Russell Jacoway gave the Cenergistic report on the Cherokee County Schools, In which they pointed out how well the schools are doing in saving energy. The Cenergistic Energy Program has been around for 9 years. Staffs of all the schools have really jumped on board, according to the report. There is a 54% energy reduction since the beginning because schools have worked at it including programming gyms to be energy efficient. They honored three schools Sand Rock, Spring Garden and Centre Elementary with awards. The three principals were given the 2023 Energy Star Certified Building Award. These three schools rate in the top 25% nationwide with being energy efficient.
The board approved Deneen Jimmerson as Superintendant’s 2023-2024 sick leave committee Representative.
The board approved the contract with Glenwood, Inc for Autism Assessment.
The board approved the contract with Sign Language Interpreting Services.
The board also approved out of state travel procedures, the 2023-24 energy savings budget, and declared a list of items as surplus property.
Bids are now being accepted for propane, HVAC and beverages.
The Personnel Action Sheet was approved.
The next Cherokee County School Board meeting will be Wednesday October 11th.
