Inebriated Man Stops Traffic in Chattooga County, Georgia
A 71-year-old man was arrested near the intersection of Klatt Boulevard and Highway 27 on Friday of last week – after he was found walking in the road and obstructing traffic. Deputy Nicole Flood responded to the scene – and found Daniel Francis Hendrie in the roadway – trying to stop vehicles. When Deputy Flood approached the subject she could tell that he was heavily intoxicated.
Deputy Flood asked him “exactly how much” he’d had to drink – and he replied “Sweetheart, three or four beers”. Deputy Flood informed him that he had to get off the highway because he was endangering himself and others – and he replied: “Darlin’, I can do what I want”.
Well, apparently not; Hendrie was transported to the Chattooga County Jail, and booked on charges of public drunkenness.
He refused the booking process and was placed in a holding cell until the next morning. According to reports, Hendrie had been seen intoxicated near the Trion Wal-Mart earlier in the day and was warned by a deputy not to get in the roadway.
