Collinsville’s McAteer accounts for four scores in 39-6 win at Section

SECTION – Mason McAteer completed 7-of-13 pass attempts for 186 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 40 yards on five carries with two scores in leading the Collinsville Panthers to a 39-6 victory at Section in Class 2A, Region 7 football action on Friday.

Kyler Beene got the Panthers (2-0, 1-0) on the scoreboard in the first quarter on a 1-yard run. The extra point was blocked, keeping the score at 6-0.

The Lions (0-3, 0-1), coached by former Collinsville assistant Riley Edwards, tied the game in the second quarter on quarterback Josh Varner’s 4-yard run with 8:36 remaining. Section’s point after was also blocked.

Varner led the Lions with 81 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown. He also threw for 53 yards.

The Panthers then reeled off 33 unanswered points for the final, beginning with McAteer’s 9-yard touchdown run with 3:47 to go in the half. Aaron Hererra connected on the extra point for a 13-6 lead.

McAteer closed out the first half with his 65-yard touchdown toss to Tytan Morgan. Hererra’s kick gave Collinsville a 20-6 halftime advantage.

McAteer managed two more scores in the third quarter on an 8-yard run and a 53-yard pass to Gavin Lang. After three quarters, the Panthers led 33-6.

Quintavious Rogers ran for a 23-yard score in the fourth for the final.

Collinsville returns home to face Pisgah on Friday. Section is at Sand Rock.
