FEDERAL COURT BLOCKS ALABAMA CONGRESSIONAL MAP, ORDERS NEW LINES DRAWN
In a 217-page ruling Tuesday, three federal judges wrote that a new congressional map approved by the Alabama Legislature in July did not address Voting Rights Act violations found in an earlier map and they ordered a third party to draft new ones.
As reported – the court wrote that it was “deeply troubled” that the Legislature did not appear responsive to its initial order.
The Alabama attorney general’s office plans to appeal.
