Labor Day Holiday Safety Tips

FROM THE CHEROKEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

On Labor Day, we honor the hard work of all those who help to drive our economy, provide for our families, and to help ensure the success and well-being of our nation.

Since many receive a well-deserved Monday off – the Labor Day holiday is traditionally considered the last big weekend of the summer – making it a prime time for one last trip to the lake or river, one more backyard barbeque, or the final campout of the season.

If you plan on traveling during the holiday weekend, Sheriff Jeff Shaver would like to remind you of several very important tips on traffic and road safety:

  • Always wear a seat belt.
  • Do not drink and drive.
  • Do not use cell phones while driving.
  • Know local traffic laws before you get behind the wheel.
  • If traveling with children, use the appropriate car and booster seats.

If you participate in water activities such as swimming, boating, or floating, be sure to wear a life jacket and also follow boating safety laws.  Swim with a buddy, keep sight of children playing in the water, and never operate a watercraft while intoxicated.

We hope everyone enjoys the Labor Day holiday, and celebrates responsibly!
