Collinsville routs Gaylesville, 47-0

GAYLESVILLE – After turning the ball over on downs on their opening possession, the Collinsville Panthers scored touchdowns on seven of their next eight possessions, and the defense forced four turnovers in a 47-0 rout at Gaylesville on Friday night.

Freshman quarterback Mason McAteer completed 5-of-7 pass attempts for 76 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Panthers in their season opener.

Rajuess Rooks led Collinsville’s ground game with 73 yards on seven carries with a score. Quintavious Rogers added 56 yards on just three carries with a touchdown. He also had two catches for 48 yards, including a touchdown.

Rogers got the Panthers on the board with 7:37 remaining in the first quarter on a 20-yard run. Gavin Lang caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from McAteer before the end of the quarter to push the Panther lead to 13-0.

McAteer connected with Rogers on a 14-yard scoring pass to open the second-quarter scoring. Rooks added a 12-yard touchdown run to give Collinsville a 26-0 advantage at halftime.

McAteer found Lang for a second score in the third quarter on a 16-yard touchdown, making the score 33-0. Derrick Orr scored on runs of 7 yards and 1 yard late in the third and midway through the fourth for the final.

Tytan Morgan led the Panther defense with an interception and a fumble recovery.

Collinsville (1-0) opens Class 2A, Region 7 play on Friday at Section. Gaylesville (0-2) hosts Coosa Christian in Class 1A, Region 7 action.
