From The National Weather Service Office In Birmingham
The weather pattern is finally changing across Central Alabama, as the heat ridge will weaken and build in over the southwest US over the next few days. A surface front is expected to move southward into the region through Monday finally cooling temperatures off, but increasing the chance for scattered to numerous showers and storms. A few of these storms could be severe due to leftover very hot and unstable conditions that will be in place.
In addition, we’ll be keeping our eyes on any tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center is currently advertising a 90% chance of a tropical depression forming in the Southern Gulf of Mexico either late this weekend or early this coming week. Many uncertainties exist in terms of movement of the system as we go into Tuesday and Wednesday, and associated impacts to Central Alabama remain unclear as a result. Stay tuned for further forecasts over the coming days.
