Former Rome, Georgia Police Officer Facing Multiple Charges

Man Indicted for Sexual Exploitation of Children and More

A 56-year-old Rome resident has been indicted on charges that he provided alcohol to a minor, videotaped her in a sex act, and then urged her not to tell her parents about their relationship.  According to Floyd County Superior Court records Rodney Lynn Clemones, currently faces felony charges of sexual exploitation of children, second-degree cruelty to children, and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.

The indictment states that sometime around August 10th, 2022, Clemones engaged in a sexual relationship with that minor, and told her to keep the relationship secret from her parents.  The relationship reportedly included at least one sex act, which Clemones reportedly videotaped with a cellphone.  Once the relationship with the girl came to light – the father of the teen took out a temporary protective order, granted by the court after a hearing on August 23rd, 2022.  At the time of his initial arrest in 2022 – Clemones was under a 12-month restraining order after sending nude photos to the minor in May. 

Clemones was a longtime youth baseball coach, a bail bondsman and was also a former ranking law enforcement officer at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. He was released from jail on a $5,700 bond with the stipulation that he has no contact with the minor involved and not go to the baseball fields at Riverview Park – according to court records.
