It’s extremely SUNNY and HOT and the Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency has opened cooling centers for Gadsden residents who need them.
The National Weather Service has forecast temperatures in the Mid-to-High 90’s through Sunday for Northeast Alabama – with heat indexes as high as 107.
The Salvation Army Chapter – located at 1101 First Avenue will be open from 1:00 – 6:00pm through Saturday. Day guests will have dinner at 5:00pm. The “Overnight Shelter” is at capacity.
All three branches of the Gadsden Public Library are available –
1) The Main Branch at 254 South College Street from 9:00am – 7:00pm Thursday / 9:00am – 5:00pm Friday / 9:00am – 2:00pm on Saturday.
2) The Alabama City Branch – at 2700 West Meighan Boulevard and the East Gadsden Branch and at 809 East Broad Street from 9:00am – 5:00pm through Friday.
3) Also, the Freedom Center – at 1601 West Meighan Boulevard is available from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Friday.
Temperatures are forecast to fall into the lower 90’s on Monday of next week, then into the 80’s over the following days.
Cherokee County has NOT deemed it necessary to open “Cooling Shelters” at this time.
