Cornejo, Diamond lead Warriors past Scottsboro in scrimmage

CENTRE – Jacob Cornejo and Tae Diamond ran for a touchdown apiece in leading Class 4A, No. 2 Cherokee County to a 14-9 victory over visiting Scottsboro in football scrimmage action on Thursday.

Cornejo accounted for the Warriors’ first score on a 13-yard run in the first quarter. Ben Frampton’s extra point made it 7-0 Cherokee County.

Scottsboro quarterback Jake Jones put the Wildcats on the board in the second quarter on a 1-yard run. The extra point was no good, keeping the Warriors in front 7-6. Diamond extended Cherokee County’s lead on a 1-yard run later in the quarter. Frampton’s point after gave the Warriors a 14-6 advantage.

Scottsboro kicker Cole Raeuchle booted a 37-yard field goal before halftime for the final.

Cherokee County hosts Alexandria to open the 2023 regular season next Friday. Scottsboro travels to Fort Payne.
