Several area football teams will be getting a dress rehearsal for the 2023 high school football season Thursday and Friday before the regular season begins next week.
On Thursday, Section is at Cedar Bluff for a scrimmage beginning at 6 p.m. The Tigers, under the direction of first-year head coach Garrett Crane, are coming off a 4-7 season. The Lions are also under first-year coach Riley Edwards and coming off a 1-9 mark in 2022.
Also on Thursday, Gaylesville travels to Guntersville to face Brindlee Mountain for a scrimmage at 7 p.
m. The Trojans went 3-6 under head coach Brian Knapp last season. Brindlee Mountain is coming off a 2-8 season.
The Cherokee County Warriors host Scottsboro on Thursday, with that scrimmage also scheduled for 7 p.m. Under the direction of Jacob Kelley, the Warriors went 12-3 and finished as Class 4A state runners-up last season. The Wildcats went 7-5.
Two other county teams are in action on Friday in a jamboree at Ohatchee.
Sand Rock (4-6 in 2022), coached by Alan Heath, takes on the host Indians (3-8 in 2022) at 4:30 p.
m., then battles White Plains (2-8 in 2022) at 5:20 p.m.
Spring Garden (10-2 in 2022), under the guidance of first-year head coach Barrett Ragsdale, scrimmages against White Plains at 6:10 p.m., then battles Westbrook Christian (5-5 in 2022) at 7 p.m. Westbrook is under the direction of former Piedmont and Cedar Bluff coach Steve Smith.
