Board of Education Meeting

At the Cherokee County Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Mr. Russell Jacoway gave a Cenergistic report on the Cherokee County Schools. He stated that $2.8 million has been saved and they’re reaching for 3 million in savings by January; he also told the School Board that Sand Rock High School had received the Energy Star Certification – and so did Centre Elementary.

More schools are very close too. He also commented how LED lighting helps WIFI and Heating thermostats in the schools.

The board approved the revised travel procedures – and also approved the 2023-2024 energy savings budget.

The board also accepted the Beverage bid for Gaylesville School with Coca-Cola and they also declared a list of items as Surplus Property.

School Superintendent Mike Welsh commented how happy he was this year with the FREE Breakfast and Lunch programs for the students, and he also commended Randy Smith for doing an outstanding job with the program.

The next Cherokee County School Board meeting will be held – Wednesday, August 23rd and that is when the “Budget Hearing” will take place.
