Gadsden, AL – Thursday afternoon, parts of Tabor Road on Lookout Mountain are closed as the Gadsden-Etowah EMA and the City of Gadsden are working to recover from a severe thunderstorm.

As of 5:00 p.m., Tabor Road is closed at the intersection at Noccalula Parkway (by the Noccalula Falls Campground), and travelers should avoid the road within the city limits.

A detour has been set up from Tabor Road to Delmont Street to Lay Springs Road for through traffic.

Etowah County was placed under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 2:04 p.m. by the National Weather Service, and there have been no critical injuries reported as a result of the storm.

The World’s Longest Yard Sale is ongoing in the Noccalula Falls and Tabor Road area, and an unusual number of people were outdoors in the area as the storm moved through.

Alabama Power lists more than 10,800 people without power in Etowah County and 5,700 people without power in Gadsden as of 5:00 p.m., and the company is working to restore service.

The Glencoe, Attalla and Rainbow City fire departments are assisting Gadsden with mutual aid, along with Piedmont EMS.
