Man fired shots into Vestavia Hills apartment, kidnapped his 11-month old child, police say

According to reports – on Sunday evening an 11-month-old was kidnapped from a Vestavia Hills apartment by a non-custodial parent and was recovered a short time later in Birmingham.

Vestavia Hills police responded at 6:20pm to Grand Highland of Vestavia Hills (an apartment complex located on Overton Road) on a report of a possible kidnapping with shots fired.  Captain Shane Ware said that once officers arrived they quickly determined that the father – who does not have custody of the child – shot into the apartment before entering, then taking the child.

The child was recovered a short time later in east Birmingham, and the father was taken into custody.  Birmingham police also assistance.  Ware said no one was injured.  The father is being held in the Vestavia Hills Jail and his name is being withheld at this time.
