Centre City Council Meeting

City of Centre Council Meeting Tuesday, July 25, 2023

Mayor Mark Mansfield started the latest Centre City Council Meeting by introducing the new Parks and Recreation Director.

Jay Wilson is the new Parks and Recreation Director; he is from the Piedmont Parks and Rec Department. The council is very happy he is part of the team. He seems very eager to get things done in a very positive fashion. He spoke about the new Aquatic Center too.

The attendance is very good at the Aquatic Center and is doing well. They will need to add more lifeguards for next season. Everyone is very pleased with the center, except for two ladies who thought the pool should be heated.

According to Mayor Mansfield, the music festival is cancelled that was scheduled for August 5th and that’s confirmed. Promoter Dee Miller couldn’t get the festival going this summer. The council was very disappointed because everyone thought that this was a done deal. Plus, last year’s event was a huge success.

Acting Fire Chief Robert Pace told the council that they needed to purchase a Guardian Angel Elite piece of safety equipment. The council approved the purchase for $1,818.  Also, the council voted to pay $952.52 to purchase foam, as well as stop/slow signs at the Fire Chief’s request.

The meeting was adjourned with a couple of items tabled for the next meeting, which will be on August 8th at 5:00pm.
