Cherokee County Receives Strong Storms on Friday Afternoon

A large area of thunderstorms developed and moved across the north central portion of the state Friday afternoon – prompting the National Weather Service in Birmingham to issue Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Blount, St. Clair, Calhoun, Etowah and Cherokee Counties.

The extreme southern portion of Cherokee county was affected along with northern Calhoun County.  

The Severe Thunderstorm warning was issued at 5:21pm and it remained in effect until 6:00pm.

At least one tree was reported down in the Piedmont area, amid periods of the heavy rain.
