Drowning Victim’s Body Recovered

JACKSON COUNTY – Today , July 9, at approximately 9:20 a.m. Jeffrey S. Abston’s body was recovered near the same location in which he went missing in the area of South Sauty on Lake Guntersville in Jackson County.

A marine-related incident that occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Friday, July 7, has resulted in the search for an Albertville man. Jeffrey S. Abston, age 65, when he exited a pontoon boat to assist in the retrieval of a dog but never resurfaced.

The following agencies assisted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in the search and recovery, Jackson County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Langston Fire Department, Scottsboro Search and Rescue, along with the Guntersville Rescue Squad and units from the Alabama Law Enforcement Marine Police Division.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division continue to investigate.
