Mr. John Lydell Hill

Mr. John Lydell Hill, age 65 of Centre passed away Monday, May 22 at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA after courageously battling complications from a massive stroke for over 3 months.

Mr. Hill grew up with sports at the center of his family. He and his brothers picked up a ball as soon as they were able. He quickly fell in love with football and played for Coach Bobby Joe Johnson at Cherokee County High where he graduated in 1976.

His affinity for football eventually led he and two of his brothers, Tim and Scott, to play football at the University of Alabama where they played for legendary Head Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. Mr. Hill went on to win two national championship rings in 1978 and 1979. His success as a football player helped pave the way for his sons’ careers. His oldest son, JT, is now an area scout for the New England Patriots while his younger son, Colton, is a recruiting specialist for Alabama Football.

He was an eloquent writer and a detailed notetaker, a trait that he shared with his daughter, Haley, who also attended the University of Alabama.

He was a man of great faith who believed in the power of family. He enjoyed spending quality time with his children and granddaughter, watching his kids play sports, attending local Cherokee County football games, going to family holidays, and attending his granddaughter’s pageants. He also loved to fish and hunt arrowheads.

Mr. Hill was an accomplished business owner in multiple industries. He excelled both in the restaurant and entertainment and florist industries.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, May 27th at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Curtis Butler (his best friend) officiating, burial will follow in Old Nazareth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 AM until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include Family and Friends.

Survivors include his sons, JT Hill, Colton Hill; daughters, Haley Dupeire, Anissa Anglin; brothers, Tim Hill, Scott Hill, Mark Hill; sisters, Donna Earls, Debbie Eastop; granddaughter, Madelyn Dupeire.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Regina Hill, and son-in-law, Jordan Dupeire.

Mr. Hill was a native of Centre, AL, was the son of the late John Paul and Betty Ann Hill. He was a member of East Centre Baptist Church.
