Mr. Jerry Bramlett Clemons Sr. of Centre, AL, quietly and peacefully took flight once more to be with his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 19, 2023. He was surrounded by family as he took his last
breaths.
He loved his wife, Martha Clemons, and was married to her for 66 years. He was born in Dunlap, TN on March 2, 1936, the only child of Matthew and Alverta Clemons. He survived Scarlett Fever at five, and this illness served to increase his enthusiasm for life. He always spoke highly of his childhood, and especially of his time working the fields with his beloved grandfather, Wiley Clemons. His grandfather
witnessed to him of the love of Jesus Christ, and Jerry Sr. continued to share that love with his children and grandchildren for the rest of his life. Jerry Sr. would also say his grandfather saved his life
again from being bitten by a poisonous snake during those days of working the fields.
Jerry Clemons, Sr. attended Auburn University for two years to study engineering and finished classes at Palm Beach Jr. College. He enjoyed flying airplanes from the age of 14 in the Civil
Air Patrol, and he earned his pilot’s license before he earned his driver’s license. He was a lifelong enthusiast of both planes and cars, and he knew the value of a collection.
He first saw Martha Murphy in Rome, GA roller skating. He braved the roller skates in
order to have the opportunity to talk to her, but his 6’4” frame was no match for those skates. He did get her attention, but it was through a crash landing with his leg stuck in the air after a less
than graceful attempt at an arabesque. She was impressed, and they were married at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church Rome, GA. on November 3, l956. Together, they built a family, and his legacy is continued
through his three children, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
His children are Jerry Clemons, Jr. (Laure Clemons), Sharla Clemons, and Regina Clemons Haley (Robert Haley, Jr.).
His grandchildren are Kristy Robbins of Metairie, LA; Norrell Robertson Ausman (Kenny Ausman) of Huntsville, AL; Ryan Randles Jones (Ryan Jones) of Birmingham, AL; Ray Robertson (Jannie Ernest
Robertson) of Tuscaloosa, AL; Kayla Clemons of Austin, TX; Jessica Harris (Brian Harris) of Gallant, AL; Jordan Robertson (2008); Emma Haley of Baton Rouge, LA; and Claire Haley of Atlanta, GA.
He enjoyed meeting his seven great-grandchildren Sadie Jane Robertson; Amos
Jordan (AJ) Robertson; Maeve Celeste Ausman; Hunter McCullough;
Allison Harris; Robbie Harris; and Zoey Harris.
Mrs. Clemons would like to recognize Kay Clemons of Metairie, LA as family and a friend to she
and her husband. Ms. Clemons and her family would like to give thanks to their neighbor Michael Peek and Southern Care Hospice for the assistance and care in recent years, which allowed for Jerry Sr. to
live out his final days at home. As his time prepared for his final flight, he very much so looked forward to seeing his earthly and Heavenly Father in the arms of Amazing Grace.
