CULLMAN – Sand Rock’s boys track and field team finished runner-up to Cold Springs in the Class 2A state track and field meet at Oliver Woodard Stadium in Cullman on Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats scored a total of 26 points. Cold Springs tallied 46 points.
Leading the Wildcats to their state runner-up finish was Ben Dale, who claimed a gold medal in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.02 seconds.
The Wildcat boys 4×400 meter relay team took first with a time of 3:30.99. The team is comprised of Jack Watson, Austin Yoder, Ben Bruce and Ben Dale.
Sand Rock’s 4×800 meter relay team finished second with a time of 8:18.90. Bruce, Caleb Yoder, Austin Yoder and Dale are the team members.
Jack Watson took silver in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.92 seconds.
The Lady Wildcats tied for 17th with J.U. Blacksher in the Class 2A girls meet. They scored a total of nine points. Cold Springs also won the 2A girls meet with a total of 48 points.
In the Class 1A state meet, Cedar Bluff’s boys finished eighth after earning 45 points. Loachapoka won the 1A boys meet with 84 points.
Austin Richardson led the Tiger boys after taking silver in the 1600 meter. His time was 5:01.04. Kade Browning earned bronze in the 100 meter dash (11.38), Michael Adams took third in the triple jump (39’9”) and Dylan Kinard came in third in the shotput (41’7”).
Cedar Bluff’s girls finished 17th with 12 points. Marion County won the 1A girls meet with 91 points.
In the Class 3A state meet, Piedmont’s girls finished 13th with a total of 19 points. Altamont won the 3A girls meet with 72 points.
Lexi Ray led the Lady Bulldogs with silver in the pole vault (9’6”), followed by Ashlyn Adderhold with bronze (9’6”).
Piedmont’s boys finished 14th with 25 points. Madison Academy won the 3A boys meet with 58 points.
Ishmael Bethel took gold in the high jump (6’4”) and silver in the triple jump (43’9.5”).
