Summerville Man Arrested in Neighboring Floyd County, Georgia on Sex Charges

A Summerville man was arrested last week in Floyd County after allegedly traveling to meet someone he thought was a minor for sex.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Forty-eight-year-old Joseph Edward Watkins made online contact with a person believed to be under the age of 16, engaged in a graphic conversion, sent a lewd picture of himself, and asked for nude pictures.

When he was arrested after driving to Floyd County to meet the person last Thursday, Watkins was found with less than an ounce of marijuana.

Watkins is charged with aggravated child molestation (criminal attempt), electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor, use of a computer to entice a child, obscene internet contact with a child, sexual exploitation of children, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
