Vincent ends Collinsville’s baseball season

COLLINSVILLE – The Vincent Yellow Jackets ended Collinsville’s baseball season Friday in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs. The scores were 10-1 and 15-5 in six innings.

In the first game, Vincent (26-4) held a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth. Collinsville scratched across a run on a RBI-single by Gavin Lang to make it a 2-1 game, but the Yellow Jackets struck for eight runs in the top of the seventh for the final.

Keaton DeBoard delivered a double for the Panthers (20-10). Jeremiah Killian and Dawson Cothran added a hit apiece. Mason McAteer scored the Panthers’ lone run.

Lang suffered the loss after working four innings on the mound. He gave up two earned runs on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. McAteer tossed 2 2/3 innings. He gave up six earned runs on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Tytan Morgan worked 1/3 of an inning. He gave up two unearned runs on a hit with a walk and a strikeout.

In the second game, Collinsville jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage in the top of the first inning, but Vincent countered with a six-run bottom half and added at least a run in four of the next five innings.

McAteer managed a pair of hits, including a double. Will Edmondson and Cothran both doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Lang collected a hit, a walk and a run. Killian contributed a hit and drove in a run. DeBoard walked and scored a run. Cooper Coker scored a run.

On the mound, DeBoard gave up a pair of earned runs on two hits with two walks. Coker worked 2 1/3 innings of four-hit ball, giving up four earned runs with three walks and three strikeouts. Edmondson tossed 2 2/3 innings and gave up an earned run on four hits with five walks and a strikeout.

Vincent advances to next weekend’s third round where it will take on Whitesburg Christian, which swept Southeastern in other second-round action on Friday.
