Cedar Bluff wins three out of four games in Albertville Softball Tournament

ALBERTVILLE – After losing to North Jackson 9-0 on Friday to open the Albertville Softball Tournament, Class 1A, No. 4 Cedar Bluff won three straight to finish at 3-1 for the tournament. They defeated Beauregard 2-1 on Friday, Oxford 6-2 on Saturday, and West Point 6-5 on Saturday.

In the loss to North Jackson on Friday, the Lady Chiefs scored seven first inning runs in which the Lady Tigers couldn’t recover.

Mattie Payne led Cedar Bluff at the plate by going 2-for-3. Natalie Baty, Reece Patterson, Harlie Nelson and Kylie Vadon each finished with a hit.

Baty suffered the loss.

The Lady Tigers rebounded to take a 2-1 decision over Beauregard on Friday. Baty went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a RBI. Payne and Patterson were both 2-for-3. Payne drove in a run. Vadon had a hit and a run. Ciana Smith and Rylie Walker both finished with a hit. Nelson drew a walk.

Patterson picked up the win after working six innings. She allowed an unearned run on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

On Saturday against Oxford, Patterson, Payne and Baty each collected a pair of hits for the Lady Tigers. One of Patterson’s was a triple. She also scored a run and drove in two more. Payne doubled and scored a run. Baty also scored a run.

Za’Niya Kyle contributed a double and a run. Vadon had a hit and a run. Nelson drove in a run and Haley Allen walked.

Baty earned the win after tossing five innings. She gave up two earned runs on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Against West Point, Patterson and Smith both picked up a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs apiece. Patterson also scored a run. Baty collected a hit, a walk, two runs and a RBI. Payne had a hit and a run. Allen and Walker both contributed a hit. Nelson and Kyle both walked and scored a run apiece.

Patterson earned the win after working 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball with a pair of strikeouts. Baty tossed 3 2/3 innings. She gave up four earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout.
