DOUBLE SPRINGS – Jordan Coker singled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, propelling the Collinsville Panthers to a 7-6 victory in Game 2 of their Class 2A first-round playoff series at Winston County on Saturday.
Collinsville (20-8) advances to next weekend’s second round, where it will host Vincent (24-4). Vincent swept Lexington in its first-round playoff series.
Collinsville held a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning in Game 2 before a lightning delay on Friday forced the two teams to pick things back up on Saturday. The Panthers won Game 1 by the final of 8-1.
In Saturday’s second game, Winston County rallied for a run in the top of the fourth and three more in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. The Panthers tied the game at 4 with a run in the bottom half of the sixth, but Winston County regained the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
That set the stage for Coker’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh, capping the Panthers’ three-run inning.
Jameson Cooper Coker led the Panthers at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a double and two runs. Mason McAteer managed three hits, a run and a RBI. Dawson Cothran added a pair of hits, including a double, with a run and two RBIs. Keaton DeBoard doubled and scored a run.
Jeremiah Killian collected a hit, a walk and a RBI. Tytan Morgan had a hit and a run. Will Edmondson added a hit and a walk. Gavin Lang drove in a run.
DeBoard picked up the win on the mound. He tossed 3 2/3 innings of three-hit ball, giving up an earned run with a walk and four strikeouts.
Edmondson tossed 2 1/3 innings. He gave up three earned runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
McAteer pitched an inning and gave up two earned runs on a hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
