Smoke From Prescribed Burns Blankets Areas across Cherokee and DeKalb Counties and Parts of Northwest Georgia

Smoke was seen both Tuesday and Wednesday in Cherokee County, especially in the Gaylesville area.

The Lookout Mountain photo was taken at about 5:00 on Tuesday afternoon near the Cherokee/Chattooga County line – and could be seen from across the northern end of the county in the Broomtown, Jamestown, and Watsons Crossroads areas, as well as the Menlo and Alpine areas of Georgia.

The smoke in the valley photos were taken around 7:30am Wednesday in Broomtown.

We understand that this was the result of a number of prescribed burns within the Little River Canyon National Preserve, with more taking place over the next few days.
