Piedmont pounds out 21 hits in softball rout at Wellborn

ANNISTON – Class 3A, No. 4 Piedmont pounded out 21 hits in a 20-4 area softball win at Wellborn in five innings on Tuesday.

Sarah Goss and Savannah Smith both led the offensive attack for Piedmont (27-10) by going 4-for-5. Goss had a home run and a triple, four runs and four RBIs. Smith managed a home run, two doubles two runs and four RBIs.

Ava Pope posted a pair of hits, including a double. She also scored a pair of runs. Abby Baird added two hits, three runs and two RBIs. Cacey Brothers went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and a RBI. Cayla Brothers was also 2-for-3 with a run. Jaycee Glover contributed two hits, including a double, with a run and a RBI.

Armoni Perry had a hit, two runs and two RBIs. Amarae Champion came away with a hit, a run and two RBIs. Jenna Calvert finished with a hit.

Cadence Buttram and Amiyah Thomas both scored a run. Morgan Studdard drove in a run.

Carson Young earned the win in the circle. She tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with no walks and a strikeout. Callie Faulkner worked an inning and gave up two unearned runs on a hit.

Piedmont travels to Weaver on Thursday at 5 p.m.
