Mr. John Douglas Whitten, age 77 of Centre, AL, passed away Saturday April 08, 2023 at Floyd Atrium Health in Rome, GA.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, April 30 at 1pm CST at the Lookout Mountain Cowboy Church with Pastor Don Hunton officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Monts Whitten, son, Gary Wade Whitten, Daughter Holly R. Whitten; grandchildren Emily Madison Whitten and Annabelle Whitten; and his dog BayBay and his cat Sissy.
He also shared much love with our other household animals Biscuit, our big Maine Coon cat and our two Dachshunds Sadie Mae and Dexter. Douglas loved Alabama Football and Turkey Hunting, he measured the years of his life by how many turkey seasons he had left, how appropriate he left to be with Jesus on this day for this was the time of year he always left to go turkey hunting in Oklahoma for 23 years with his best friends. As his wife, I feel like he only left this day to get the Best to help him call those turkeys up and enjoy them as he always did, just to see them in the fields dancing and strutting about. I am so glad he got to go hunting on the last day he was able to walk on greenfields in Alabama, this is the way he wanted it to be. Now that the game is over he would say to you now , Roll Tide !!
The men of the church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Whitten was a native of Brewton, Alabama the son of the late Jewel Edna Clark and John Franklin Whitten. He was a retired power plant supervisor and associated with Temple Inland at the time of his retirement.
Mr. Whitten was preceded in death by his son John Douglas Whitten.
He was a member of the Lookout Mountain Cowboy Church.
