Two Arrested Following High Speed Chase in DeKalb County

Two people were arrested Sunday following a high speed chase in DeKalb County.

Sabrina Stewart, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Riley Hastings of Scottsboro, now are facing several felony and misdemeanor charges, following that pursuit.  Ider’s Police Chief Stephen Malone, said that the arrests came during patrols following complaints from residents over drug activity in a specific area.  Police saw a vehicle with expired Indiana license plates and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

Malone said the pursuit ensued on several county roads and Alabama 75 with speeds of more than 100mph at several different points, and the driver finally lost control of the vehicle on County Road 754.  Following a brief foot pursuit, Malone took Stewart, the driver, into custody after she resisted arrest.

The passenger remained inside the vehicle and was arrested.

A vehicle search then uncovered a sawed-off shotgun and drugs.  Henager Police, and the DeKalb and Jackson County Sheriff’s Offices assisted.  Malone stated: just because it’s Easter Sunday “doesn’t mean there isn’t crime being committed.”
